Embarrassments, Entanglements and The Eventual Ensuals...

Embarrassments come in all forms and it generally comes uninvited, sudden and uninformed. It can be in the form of that last bite of some sticky cheese, or the fiery red chilli flakes or that small bite of green spinach, that you have failed to brush out off your teeth and it does a little "peek a boo" when you are having that important conversation with your latest crush! Urrgh! It is quite embarrassing, more so when this innocent folly of yours get pointed out by that mischievous little impish boy in your complex and you have no options rather than turn tomato red.
Embarrassment is also when you try to climb onto that last seat, (last because it is near the door, slightly elevated with a cage like enclosure around, not sure what exactly goes in the mind of the manufacturer, but surely it's intended to make the seating a little too competitive and complex)in the air conditioned Volvo bus, laden with robotically programmed people, who are even clothed similar, now this is a double shocker for women who always chance upon 9 out of 10 colleagues/friends/foes dressed in that latest "BIBA" or a "W" or even a "Westside" ( now that's something for the lesser affluent mortals). It is highly awkward when in a almost packed ac Volvo bus, wherein even the ac screams to be spared of its utmost capacity, you doze off resting your oscillating head on the shoulder of the next passenger and a lot of your saliva droplets trickle onto their crisp ironed attire!
Embarrassment also comes in the form of those relatives who had perhaps heard about your birth the last time and next you hear from them is when your first board examination results are out. You get compared to that meek and geek "Chintu" or that overtly obedient "Pooja" (her name too spells prayers) because they have scored 0.099% more than you. And still their aspirations are sky high whereas you are trying to figure out what's the best option for you.
Embarrassment, as they are also called "discomfitures" (now that sounds classier) are known to put any human to shame, for instance, you need to buy your wedding night lingeries and your mother accompanies you because she is more excited and proactive than you are, and to prove this, she unabashedly orders the betel nut stained-teeth guy at the counter, "Get the latest ones!" and this guy who is more lascivious than the groom, doles out a weird 13 or a 16 pieces set!  Somewhere the almighty is there and hence you get spared of the horror wherein this guy tries out the outfit and tells you the exact way it is to be worn or unworn.
Embarrassments are like entanglements, the more you try to untie, the more knots you end up creating. It also comes in the form of something that only a Bengali can proudly vouch to own, a "daaknaam", it's a pet name, preferably to used by your family at home, and to tell the truth, these are kind of really obnoxious because these have been conceived with no aim in mind but to embarrass you. Something like "Potol", "Dolui", "Moutushi", "Bappa", "Babai", "Bhebli", "Poltu" so on and so forth. The ultimate discomfiture occurs when your parents call you by that name when your friends are around. All you wish is that the earth should crack and engulf you in its folds.

Embarrassments reach their crescendo when an adult accidentally farts in the vicinity of a toddler who by now is well aware of the sound and its eventual repercussions, brings up this topic in a hall packed with guests. It also puts one in a sticky ground when the toddler confuses the bones of any other meat with the bones of a dinosaur (thanks to our ever evolving technology) and parents almost die of a cardiac arrest when their little one claims that his/her parents eat dinosaurs!

Embarrassments and their resultant ensuals are never ending. Nonetheless, these stealthily creep into your otherwise mundane monotonous life making it a little more complex but sometimes to look back on and laugh your heart out.
